Vanitas est inspiré par les tableaux "Les Ambassadeurs" de Hans Holbein le Jeune et par "Les époux Arnolfini", de Jan van Eyck.
Cet objet concentre à la fois, dans son aspect formel, l’anamorphose utilisée par Holbein et l’épitaphe de van Eyck au-dessus du miroir qui reflète l’image du peintre "Johannes van Eyck fuit hic".
On peut également le rattacher au conte populaire des frères Grimm Blanche-Neige dans lequel l’horrible marâtre se regarde tous les jours en posant cette question : "Miroir, mon beau miroir, dis-moi qui est la plus belle ?
Je suis face à mon miroir, je me regarde, je suis présent mais pour combien de temps encore ?"

Vanitas is inspired by the two paintings "The Ambassadors" of Hans Holbein the younger and by "The Arnolfini portrait" of Jan van Eyck.
This object concentrates at the same time, in its formal aspect, the anamorphosis used by Holbein and the van Eyck's epitaph : "Johannes van Eyck fuit hic".
We can also connect it with the popular fairy tale of the Brothers Grimm "Snow White" in which the horrible and cruel mother looks every day by asking : "mirror, mirror tell me who's the most beautiful?
I am in front of my mirror, I look myself, I am present but still how long?"
